ZAMBIA
Environmentally speaking
Zambia is a wonderfully diverse and exciting country to visit, the eastern and western
halves are quite different and the central districts bracket the two, forming a watershed
between the halves and a road network oriented north-south.
Western Zambia is dominated by the floodplains of the Zambezi and Chobe systems. In
between these areas are extensive miombo woodlands interrupted periodically by dambos
and open patches. These endless grasslands and flooded areas are seasonally inundated
in the rainy and subsequent flood seasons.
The resulting topography is flat from horizon to horizon! Broadleaved woodlands on sandy
soils, grasslands both wet and seasonally wet and isolated dominate the western sector.
In the woodlands, huge termifaria arise out clay – loams, some of them completely wooded
with mature trees and others appearing only as meter–high pedestals, looking like
“collectors” of statutes in filed of waving grass.
A number of ox-bow lakes remains nearer the Zambezi, in various states of reclamation by
the aquatic plant communities there. A haven for birdlife
North and eastern South Africa and Mozambique. The valley has two national parks,
designated as the north and south Luangwa national parks respectively.
Four national parks a found in this section: west Lunga plains, Liuwa plains,
Sioma Ngwezi
and the biggest Zambian park, the Kafue national park.
The central area, including Lusaka is composed of mosaics of woodlands, farmland,
grasslands and urbanization around the main towns.
The Northern border is characterized by equatorial forests, which naturally creates a habitat it
for a whole new community of bird species and mammals not found any where south of the
roads linking west Lunga and Kabwe.
The eastern half is again divided by the thickly wooded escarpment running diagonally NESW through Selenje – Mpika, the north – western area is formed centrally, as there is
abundant surface water on sandy loam soils. Ideal for tobacco and others crops, further
north is marshland, interspersed with dry land zones, covered by dense mature broadleaf
woodland. Several large water bodies, with zoned marshlands dominate this area the
national parks here include: Mweru Wantipa, Sumbu, Lusenga plains and Lavushi Manda
national parks. The Bangweulu swamps in the northwest central areas are home to the rare
shoebill white checked bee – eater and others similar status birds.
The eastern sector, below the escapement is hot, dry lowland country dominated by the Luangwa River, and its valley. The bird species found here are typical of the ‘bushveld’ of
Zimbabwe,
THE LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK
The Lower Zambezi National Park gets its stunning scenery from the combination of 120km
of Zambezi river front, the concentration of game in the valley floor and the backdrop of the
magnificent Zambezi escarpment, the southern limit of the great east African rift valley. The park is opposite Mana pools national park, a world heritage site across the Zambezi River in
Zimbabwe.
Relatively new, the national park was officially gazetted in 1983 and consists of over four
thousand (4092) square kilometers. The park is bordered by the Chiawa game management
area (GMA) in the west, Rufunsa (GMA) in the east, the Zambezi River in the south, and the
Great east road in the north.
The park receives few visitors today, but it won’t be long before the great botanical is
realized and the lower Zambezi national park slowly becomes more and more like the other
crowded parks in Africa.

buy. Click on link below for specific info:
http://users-telenet.be/worldstsandards/electricity.htm
Most of the world is 220 volts. Not a problem for most laptops and cameras which are rated
for 110 – 220 volts. But don’t bring a hair dryer, as it will blow up. The adapter needed is a
type m – 3 pronged
Tie a colored ribbon on your suitcase to make it easier to spot on the lagged carousel. Be

Lost luggage is all too common, the camps offers laundry services with some day
washing and return of clothing. Please be aware that laundry detergents and washing
cycles differ from U.S standard.

suitcase, sports bag or backpack, no longer than 30 cm (height) x 30 cm (width) x 60 cm
(length). Maximum 15 kg plus a day pack, luggage limits to one airline are strictly enforced,
and due to limited vehicle capacity, the cost of transporting any luggage beyond these
restrictions is the responsibility of the client. Please note, if you are traveling with a large
amount of luggage and will be returning to Johannesburg later in your trip, you may leave a
portion of it at the started point of the hotel this is indeed possible as storage facilities are
available. It is important to pack clothes for warm days and cool evening, as well as a worm
jacket for early morning game drives. Light quick drying, practical clothes are advisable for
this safari tripe. A set of smart casual clothes is also advisable for your time in
